LIAISON® Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) Diagnostic Solution
Genital herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection in pregnant women is associated with high risk of viral transmission to the infant at delivery. The identification of the HSV type (HSV1 or HSV2) and the risk during pregnancy is necessary to avoid life-threatening consequences for newborns.

LIAISON® HSV-1 IgG
LIAISON® HSV-1 Type Specific IgG is a CLIA assay for the qualitative determination of specific IgG antibodies to Herpes Simplex virus Type 1 (HSV-1) in human serum.
LIAISON® HSV-2 IgG
LIAISON® HSV-2 IgG is a CLIA assay for the qualitative determination of specific IgG antibodies to Herpes Simplex virus Type 2 (HSV-2) in human serum or plasma samples.

Background
Herpes simplex virus (HSV), known as herpes, is a common infection. It primarily spreads by skin-to-skin contact. It is treatable but not curable.
There are two forms of the virus:
- Type 1 (HSV-1) commonly spreads by oral contact and causes infections in or around the mouth. It can also cause genital herpes. Most adults are infected with HSV-1.
- Type 2 (HSV-2) spreads by sexual contact and causes genital herpes.
The LIAISON® HSV line has been developed to solve the complexity of serological diagnosis for 2 HSV infections. HSV-1 IgG and HSV-2 IgG can be detected separately to better support the screening and HSV 1-2 IgM assay to identify an early infection.
