The LIAISON® IGF-I kit uses chemiluminescent immunoassay (CLIA) technology for the quantitative determination of the insulin-like growth factor (somatomedin C or Sm-C, IGF-1) in human serum.
Background
Excess or deficiency of the human growth hormone (hGH, or GH) can lead to a variety of medical disorders with potentially severe impacts at any age.
Binding protein levels (Insulin-like growth factor 1, or IGF-1) blood tests show whether the growth problem is caused by the pituitary gland.
How it works
LIAISON® Growth Hormone Disorders Diagnostic Solution identifies diseases and conditions caused by either a deficiency, or overproduction of growth hormone.
Determination of human growth hormone in serum specimens
Identify
GH works through a growth factor called IGF-1.6. A normal plasma or serum IGF-I concentration is strong evidence against GH deficiency.
Evaluate
Evaluate pituitary function.
A low IGF-I value implies GH deficiency and requires additional testing to determine whether GH secretion is subnormal.
Monitor
Monitor the effectiveness of growth hormone-based treatment.
Measurement of IGF-I is also useful in assessing change of nutritional status.
