Calprotectin is secreted by neutrophils, which in case of inflammation of the intestine are recalled in this area and the concentration of Calprotectin therefore increases in the stool. Because Calprotectin is resistant to enzymatic degradation, it can be easily measured in feces but must be extracted from a native stool sample. The LIAISON® Calprotectin assay, which can be automatically run on the LIAISON® analyzer family, simplifies the detection of Calprotectin to speed IBD diagnosis.
